Could someone please help me understand this?!

Question: Could someone please help me understand this.?
I went to the neurologist with aching pain through my entire right arm, including my elbow, wrist, and fingers. Sometimes it even hurts to breathe from the pain in my back. The MRI showed that I have minor degenerative arthritis and a small disk protrusion at c5-c6. I have been in terrible pain and thought I would finally receive some treatment. My neurologist wrote the results in a letter to me, as I read to the end he said he couldn't understand where my pain could be coming from and said he had no treatment for me. Am I crazy.? Isn't c5-c6 where the nerves run into the arms and even down to the fingers. Could anyone help me understand this.? Is it because the protrusion is small.? Health Question & Answer

Answers:
You definitely need to take all of your records, reports and results and seek a second opinion. My husband also had that and was in terrible pain. He had surgery last year and within 4 months after surgery felt much better.Health Question & Answer

Gillianp is all wrong. The neurologist should be able to handle your problem, all he has to do is send you to an orthopedic surgeon and let him make the decision, he's the one doing the work, not the neurologist. A Rhumotologist is O.K. if you can find one, there aren't that many around if you can get in.
Go to another doctor, get your records and see another doctor.Health Question & Answer

I will try. You went with Pain right arm pain. Degenerative Arthritis is the posh label for wear and tear, or aging. The disc protrusion, if it was causing problems then it would not be pain, but sensory loss as in you could not tell the difference between hot and cold, or a dull/sharp object being prodded into the arm. Likewise you could have motor weakness, not be able to move the arm. Now IF you had sensory loss or motor loss than they would probably do something. However, pain would be more the degenerative arthritis, so you will need to see a Rheumatologist to get treatment and not a Neurologist. Hope that helps.Health Question & Answer
