First, you have to decide if there's really a significant dehydration. It's "diagnosed" by lay people much, much more often than it really happens. If, for instance, the pulse is under a hundred, it's unlikely there's enough dehydration to worry about.
If there's been significant vomiting and diarrhea for more than a day or so, or some other reason for real concern, then oral hydration is all that's required in the vast majority of cases. Even with considerable vomiting, roughly half the fluid taken in will be absorbed. But if the pulse is high and mucous membranes dry, or you have other concerns such as prolonged GI fluid loss, you may be dealing with not just a fluid deficit but also with electrolyte abnormalities, and it may be best not to try home treatment.
It happens, but I can't remember the last time I had to keep a teenager overnight for hydration. They simply aren't as delicate as those at the extremes of age.Health Question & Answer

The fact that she is seventeen year old girl is somewhat reassuring, unlike very small babies who become quite dehydrated very soon and become critical. Grown up kids should be relatively safe that way. Nevertheless, if she is having loose motion quite frequently more that 2 to three episodes per hour, her eyes are sunken also if she has vomiting in addition which means she can not be rehydrated by mouth, then it is best to rehydrate her by starting a drip. also she may need antibiotics if the cause of diarrhoea is infective and she runs temperature, which means hospital care.
On the other hand if the vomiting is not so severe or the stool frequency is not so much and the quantity of fluid lost is less, then may be you can give plenty of fluids by mouth and wait.Health Question & Answer

make sure she drinks plenty of fluids. You may want to give her pedialite. It is usually for kids but it can help hydrate anything. If her condition doesn't improve in the next day then take her to the doctor. Like the below person said, if she is vomiting or showing signs of severe dehydration, consider this a medical emergency and take her to the hospital. They'll probably giver her an IV or something to get her fluids back up.Health Question & Answer

She should drink sports drinks, they have electrolytes to help with dehydration.

How to know to bring her to the doctor, if she passes out or if her tongue is white.

They will give her I.V fluids and depending how bad it is the may want to keep her over night.

Try the sports drinks. My 13 year old had this problem and my aunt is a nurse and told me to give him Gatorade or something of that nature. It works she just has to drink a lot. It doesn't taste great to me anyway, but it will help.

Best of luck and I hope this info helps you.Health Question & Answer

If you suspect it she should see a doctor ASAP. If she is sick and you fear secondary dehydration be sure she is consuming fluids. If she is vomiting and or has diarrhea every couple of hours then no amount of fluid intake will help and she needs to be seen in the ER. Health Question & Answer
