Here is a web site that I have found for other people asking about De Quervain's. The information seems to be pretty good and useful. .?Topic_ID=45" rel="nofollow">http://www.handuniversity.com/topics.asp...

....now that being said. Surgery does not always work. Make sure you try all your options first like physical therapy or splinting. Personally if it were me I would splint for the 6 weeks and then follow it with physical therapy to control inflammation, gain strength and learn techniques to prevent aggravating movements.

I've never known anyone who has had surgery for de Quervain's, but I would imagine it would be similar to carpal tunnel surgery. When my friend had her surgery, it was a day surgery, she was sent home and in a splint for about 2 weeks. She had restrictions on how much she could lift, and I believe she took pain killers for a couple of days.

I've got de Quervain's also, and I know how painful it is, so don't worry about any pain etc after the surgery. Remember how worth it, it will be after you've recoveredHealth Question & Answer
