Why wouldnt a Dentist perscribe me tyenol 3's?!

Question: Why wouldnt a Dentist perscribe me tyenol 3's.?
I got my wisdom tooth extracted yesterday, was in agony all day and all night not able to sleep, ended up taking 1 Extra Strength Advil, 2 Extra Strength Mortin and 3 tyenol ones in a 6 hour time frame, only after the last tyenol did I relax enough from the pain to Doze off but everything I did it was a few seconds cause I'd be jolted awak due to horrible throbbing pain.
I do get irritable bowel from tyenol, but at this point I am like I'd rather deal with the pain and then later deal with the irritable as I do have medicine for it.
So I told the dentist this and all he came back with was Extra Strength Advil and Extra Strength tyenol, which I dont see the point in taking if I'm not getting any relief from it only to pay for it dearly later with irrable bowel.
Anyways I'm standing in the office bawling holding my 7 month old, and holding my 2 years old hand, and they tell me tyenol 3s wouldn't work.?.?.?
So I ask can I get something to help me sleep.? If I'm asleep I wont feel the pain. My husband is taking care of the infant at night so if I could get something to sleep that be GREAT!!!
Then the reception proceeded to patornize me and tell me to take it easy, relax, put my feet up, and not even help me with my sleep problem......so I left crying as Advil and Tyenol last night proved to be hellish.
So I went to my family doctor who kindly took me in without a appointment in 10 mins even though he was swamped as well.
And was fine with giving tyenol in fact he suggested it. And something to sleep....Why Why Why.?.?.?.?
I didnt even use pain meds for having two vaginal births, why didnt this dentist listen to me, and why wouldnt tyenol threes work...cause I'm just looking forward to when my husband comes home from work I'm in sooooo much pain, will it work.?
If nothing else I will have sleep aid.

Oh and the nurse mentioned something about "Dry Root".? whats this, she mentioned if I'm still in such pain tomorrow go back to the dentist, I asked my family dr about this and he just said yea go see the dentist as he is not one.
So makes sense.....is it bad.? Does it mean more pain to fix it.?
And I hope no one takes offence, I like dr's of all kinds and this dentist was very awesome great yesterday even phoning me from home ( I wasnt home) to see how I was...but I just dont understand, Advil and reg tyenol is NOT working!!!! Why suggest the same thing that isn't working.?.?.?

So tyenol 3s will help with pain, cause I've been crying most of the day...I need some relief once my husband gets home.Health Question & Answer

Most dentists won't prescribe opiates because they get taken advantage of... the next time you need to have something like that done, talk to your doctor FIRST. He should prescribe what you need.

And about the Tylenol and tooth pain... that's BS. Opiates work FAR better for ANY sort of pain relief. I hear ya. OTC pain killers do nothing for me. I think your dentist was just covering himself honestly... playing it TOO safe. There should be no issue prescribing you 10 pills, but if he's going to be a jerk about it, talk to your doctor. They should be able to work something out for you.Health Question & Answer

Most dentist and Dr's have their own personal preference about the type of pain meds they like to prescribe. Health Question & Answer

i don't remember what dry root is but i am sure u can google it. i think the dentist kept telling u tylenol etc because right now u r fighting the drugs. maybe in time as the pain lessens naturally the pills would work. but then the pain would be going away too. personally i would change dentists. i dislike drs, dentists that refuse to listen, when it is my body, my symptoms and who would know my body best... i am sure fixing the dry root will be painful and expensive as i have never been to a dentist that had your purse's best interests in mind if u know what i mean. hugs kiddo and good luck for this. how about warm salt water soaks over the tooth area does that help.? tastes bad but might help. was the all time remedy in the 60's. You need to find a new dentist!!! I've been a chronic pain patient for several years and I like to think I keep up with what is going on with pain studies,, it's not hard to find one that says about anything you want,,, but Tylenol ES probably is about as good as #3,, really even vicodin(5mg hydrocodone) is kind of weak for that type dental work. he dentists I've been to always gave me 7.5 or 10mg lortab's

Here is something that isn't a narcotic but it will help you,, it's called Hurricaine Gel,, most pharmacies have it,, it will numb you right up,,, but if you hurt too much I'd visit the ER if you have insurance.

It's a shame that doctors and dentist have become so paranoid about pain medications it is crazy,,, it's great to try to keep the abusers away but not when it effects people that are in need of pain medication

here is a good alternative medicine chest type site that may help you
