Very Bad Headache, Eyes Hurt, Seeing Lights, Dizzy?!

Question: Very Bad Headache, Eyes Hurt, Seeing Lights, Dizzy.?
I woke up this morning fine, I went to school, and right away I felt dizzy. After a few minutes my vision was mostly turned into white fuzz, and I could not read words I was directly looking at. I started to get pain behind my eyes, and felt as if I had to throw up. I went home and actualy passed out while walking through the living room. I was walking, then all of the sudden I woke up laying down. The headache is still hurting like crazy. Mainly behind my right eye. Ive taken tylenol but it hasn't helped one bit. Before you say "Go to the doctor", understand that I cannot. My family cant afford medications, let alone co-pay. I have and still am, drinking a ton of water and tea. I layed in bed for the past 2 hours but havent slept at all. What can I do.?Health Question & Answer

It's called a migraine and the exact mechanism is still uncertain. If this was your first one then prepare yourself for more in the future. You've already mentioned two possible causes of it, the lack of food and the lack of sleep. Try to avoid these factors to prevent more migraines. Other common causes are caffeine, cheese and chocolate.

The best thing you can do is notice when a migraine is about to occur. A lot of migraine sufferers get an 'aura' which is the flashing/fuzzy vision you described which happens before the headache comes. I find that if i take my painkillers at this time i can usually prevent the headache part. I generally just take a couple of ibuprofen which seems to work. It also helps to do as you did and lie in a dark, quiet room for an hour or so.

If you get very frequent migraines, more than one a month, then go to the doctor's as they can prescribe more effective medication. I generally get a migraine once every 3-4 months, and these usually come on with lack of sleep followed by cup of coffee for me.

Sounds like a migraine to me. Do you have Ibuprofin or Alleive.? Take 4 Ibuprofin or 2 or 3 Alleive. Lay in a dark room with a cool compress over your eyes. It may take a bit, but it will go away. Stop drinking caffeine today. The sooner you fall asleep, the sooner you will start to get better.

For future reference, as soon as I start getting dizzy or see those little flashing lights, I take 3 ibuprofin. That usually stops the migraine before it even starts!

Feel better!Health Question & Answer

Oh man I'm sorry... sounds like you have a migraine, there's nothing you can really do for t but to lay down, and drink water in a totally black, silent room.
- hope you feel betterHealth Question & Answer

Ummm, hard to make an accurate guess. I can almost guess that you will get answers like low blood sugar and they will be on the tirade of eating breakfast ( YUCK) but I say with a reasonable amount of certainty that it is a migraine head. If It is I am so sorry they are nothing to wish upon anyone. I believe( if my memory serves me correct) that I received phenergan ( anti nauseate) because i had one so bad . I used to have them and for as many as I had and how many I was plagued with I stopped having them and it has been years since i have had oneHealth Question & Answer
