What should I do, should I be worried?!

Question: What should I do, should I be worried.?
Well, I was playing with my dog, playing tug-of-war and stuff, and she came up and accidentally bit my lip. It did break, but it wasn't gushing, if I didn't squeeze my lips. It's on the bottom lip, by the way. I held tissue paper over it until it stopped coming out, but there are still obvious signs on the surface that it was bleeding, such as a red dot that won't come off when rubbed by a tissue.

I'm not sure what to do now. Do I put ice over it.? Do I have to disinfect it.? We brushed my dog's teeth last night, and she doesn't eat anything nasty. She has pretty good oral hygiene. But should I worry about germs getting in.?

Would it be smart to put a band-aid over it, or not.? It isn't hurting, but it is swollen a bit, and more annoying than anything. It would really be nice if you could help me! Thanks in advance!

If you have a healthy immune system, it's really unlikely anything bad is going to happen. You have a much better chance of getting an infection from a cut on your hand, which is one of the dirtiest parts of your body.

Just to be safe though, you can wash out your mouth with listerine or similar mouthwash to kill any bacteria, or saltwater if you don't have any mouthwash. A band aid probably isn't necessary, but avoid touching it so you don't contaminate it with bacteria from your hands. If it's swelling a lot, you can put some ice on it, but never put ice on something directly (put it in a rag or plastic bag) and never for more than 20 minutes, because after that it can actually cause tissue damage.

Wow, pregnancy and parenting huh.? I don't think I've ever chosen the suggested category Yahoo has given me.Health Question & Answer

You should check to see if she is up to date with shots and stuff, just in case.

I say put neosporin[sp] on it, and try not to lick your lips. Then ice it every now and then.

If it gets real bad call your doctor and see what they say.

Hope that helps.Health Question & Answer

It will be sore and swollen for a couple of days but should be alright before long. Keep rinsing your mouth with hydrogen peroxide until it's healed. If it shows any sign of infection, though, see your doctor or a clinic.Health Question & Answer

Give your lip a good clean and if it's swelling ice won't do any harm.
I wouldn't put a band-aid on it if the bleeding has stopped.
Is your tetanus jabs up to date.? If not, visit a doctor.Health Question & Answer
