Place ice on the area for fifteen to twenty minutes per hour. This will stop the pain and swelling in the area. Only turn your head and neck away from the pain. Keep doing this and in a few days things should clear up. If it is bothering you during the course of the day use a soft cervical collar that will relax the muscles of the neck. You can also lay on a rolling pin while on the floor. This will support the neck and if you gently push it up towards the top of your head it will give you a slight amount of traction.Health Question & Answer

I used to get that quite often when I was a child. It was an air pocket and wouldnt allow me to move my neck to at all. Sometimes it was the right and others the left side. It was very painful. Grandmas solution: roll a big piece of chalk over it until you hear it pop.
All that I am telling you is from my own experience and take it only as a possibility that this could be the same situation with you.
The whole thing should go away within a day or so. If it persists, you really want to get checked out.
Good luck!Health Question & Answer

I'd see a doctor ASAP but if you have any other symptoms, particularly a dislike of light, headache, rash or fever go straight to A&E (ER) as these may point to a potentially serious infection.
