Do I really have to wait 3 years for my frozen shoulder to thaw?!

Question: Do I really have to wait 3 years for my frozen shoulder to thaw.?
Answers:
Hi. My frozen shoulder resolved itself in a year. I still cannot raise my arm all the way up, and was told i might never get it to go up all the way again. Don't get the surgery. Trust me, your shoulder will get better. It's a very slow process for this to get better, it can take up to 2 years, but most people get better before that. I was in horrible pain for about 7 months ( the nights were the worst ). I got no sleep at all, which made things even worse. After that the improvement was still slow, but the pain started to diminish to just being sore. The movement comes back even slower ( i didn't care much about that, i was just happy not to have that horrible pain anymore ). Please be patient, i know it's hard to wait, but you will get better. I think having frozen shoulder was the most painful thing i ever went through, so my heart goes out to you. Good luck and feel better soon, hugs :-)Health Question & Answer

I realize that a frozen shoulder is a major problem but you should be working with a physical therapist. The progression for some people is slow but the capsule that lines the joint is shrunk and that is the problem. You need to be with someone that is going to do hands on work and not modalities. The capsule is deep and even the deepest of heats is not going to truly heat the capsule enough to give you the expansion that is needed. Gentle mobilization is the answer. A physical therapist will be able to do that with you and give you a series of exercises to do at home. In fact most of the progress is going to come from what you do after a session. The muscles are the key to this so they must be kept strong and in balance. There are very gentle ways of stretching the capsule and getting the results you want. If you check the literature you will find that after a year or so a spontaneous resolution will occur but what is not said is that there is not a full resolution of normal movement of the shoulder. Manipulation under anesthesia is another option but from my experience that should only be done by a doctor that specializes in shoulders and even they will tell you it doesn't always work. Plus you have to go to physical therapy immediately after wards or all will be lost. Surgical interventions are not that successful and painful. So get a referral to a physical therapist for care.Health Question & Answer
