Question: MS-Contin 30mg tablets.?
Hi i was recently prescribed MS-Contin 30mg tabs for breakthrough pain , I suffer from chronic Neck Pain , Back Pain , and TMJ Syndrome and i have been on Percocet 10/325 for a few months now.I would like to know how much stronger the MS-Contin 30mg tabs are and what to expect from side effects. How comparable are they to the Percocet tabs in strength. I've had a few friends tell me they are alot stronger than percocet is this true.?I appreciate any answers you can give me.Thanks again.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
MS Contin is sustained release morphine, not OxyContin, which is sustained release Oxycodone. They are much stronger than the Percocet you have been taking. I assume that you are taking the MS Contin 2 times per day with the Percocet as needed for break through pain. That is the way it would typically be prescribed. Just be careful with them until you know how they effect you. You may feel more tired and little more out of it than normal for a bit while your body adjusts to the medication. Don't drive! Since they are so much stronger, they should bring your pain under control and the Percocet should help when they start to wear off, which is usually about 8 hours into a 12 hour dosing schedule. Good luck.Health Question & Answer

I don't know for sure. I'm assuming that MS is a generic for Oxycontin which is MUCH stronger than percocet. I wouldn't take more than one per day. The side effects are the likelihood of getting addicted like all other pain meds, building up a tolerance, and experinceing withdrawal symptoms when you stop using them after using them regularly, amongst others which are physical too. Good luck!Health Question & Answer
