Im about to have a finger amputated so i can continue playing aussie rules. how long will it take to heal?!

Question: Im about to have a finger amputated so i can continue playing aussie rules. how long will it take to heal.?
im 17 years old and im very hopeful of being drafted to play afl at the end of next year - im captain of the 1st school footy side, and play representative football, and when i was 15 i badly broke my left ring finger. since then ive tried everything - taping it, wearing a glove, painkillers etc but it hasnt done anything. my doctor basically told me that given how bad the finger was i would have to consider giving up footy unless i took drastic action. i know its a huge move - but im so passionate about footy, so ive decided to have my left-ring finger chopped off at the first joint (first one up from knuckle) to let me continue playing. what i want to know is, how long will the finger, or stump as it will be by then, take to heal.? daniel chick - an ex-afl player had one of his fingers cut off and he was back training within a week. im having the finger amputated over summer so it can heal over the holidays and so ill be right for next year.
