Question: How long until fit to go back to work after gall bladder removal.?
my doc says gall bladder removal is classed as major surgery, but he says i should be fit to go back to work after 2-3 weeks! any advice would be wellcome!Health Question & Answer

Hi. Its a difficult question to answer. Did you have key-hole surgery or traditional removal.? What sort of a job do you have.? If your job involves lifting and you had the traditional surgery then you will need to be off for around 3 months however if you had key-hole surgery and have an'office' job then 2-3 weeks should be fine. Every person is individual and recovery rates do vary so your GP is in the best position to advise you as to when you are fit to go back to work. Hope you feel better soon xHealth Question & Answer
You can return to work when you feel comfortable. About 2 weeks is usual, but this maybe longer or shorter depending on your job and your recovery. You may be able to go home the same day or the day after your operation depending on your recovery.
With Laroscopic Cholecystectomy, the operation is not usually too painful, but you will be given pain relief to for any discomfort.
You will have small dressings on each of the small cuts to your abdomen. These should be removed after about 48 hours. The stitches under the skin will dissolve over a few weeks and do not need to be removed.Health Question & Answer

I had my gallbladder removed a couple years ago. I never considered it a major surgery. I was out of the hospital the next day of the operation and walking around normally. Yeah I was sore for a little while, but no real pain, it definitely didn't take 2-3 weeks to heal. Your doctor sucks.Health Question & Answer
If it was done laporascopically, three small incisons, then the time is around 5 to 7 days provided you are not doing any heavy lifting..if you have had traditional removal then it could be as much as 6 weeks.Health Question & Answer
