How to get someone to quit smoking?!

Question: How to get someone to quit smoking.?
Hey, my mom smoked when she was in high school, but stopped a few years later. She just recently started, and she keeps telling me that she will stop smoking, but just not right now (yeah right). What is some method that I can use to convince her.? She is being very stubborn about it now, and feels that she is being ridiculed by everyone because she smokes. Help please.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Your mom is a grown woman with her own mind. The more you harass her about this, the more stubborn she will become about keeping on smoking. I started again after not smoking for 7 years. Maybe it was driving her as crazy as it did me for the entire time, after I stopped. I am sure you have told her how you feel about it. To keep on and on about the smoking is rude - she heard you and knows how you feel. You might get further with the subject if you talk about how worried her smoking is making you - but in the end it is her choice and you will have to honor that whether or not you agree. The best of luck to both of you. Health Question & Answer

I am assuming that your mother is an adult and is capable of making informed decisions for herself, perhaps you should assume that too.

There is, short of amputating both of her arms, no way to "get" her to quit smoking. If she doesn't want to quit then she won't. Anything that you might do to try will probably make her feel worse, but do absolutely nothing to stop her smoking. If/when she's ready to quit, then your support would be useful, but until then it's probably best not to "try" anything.Health Question & Answer

I told my boyfriend that i thought he stunk all the time and i didn't want to be around him until he quit, about a month later he stopped smoking. His little brother also told him how ugly he looked with a cigarette in his hand and found a picture of him when he was smoking my boyfriend was so embarrassed.Health Question & Answer

Tell her to quit before it's too late. My wife was the same way.
She was always going to quit tomorrow. She now has COPD and
can't walk more than 10' without stopping to rest. That came on her over night.Health Question & Answer
