Question about a halo.?!

Question: Question about a halo..?
My dad was recently in a pretty serious car accident. He fractured his C2 vertebrae in 3 places, and he's miraculously not paralyzed. He has to wear a halo for 4-5 months. My question is about his sleeping arrangements. He has to sleep in a recliner and his hips are getting pretty sore from sitting and sleeping in the chair. We've tried the wedge for the bed and that doesn't seem to work for him. He's a big guy, about 6'3'' and 270 lbs. Does anyone have any experience with sleeping with a halo.? Or any advice to make him a little bit more comfortable would be appreciated.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
You might try talking to his doctors about getting him a hospital bed for the house for the remainder of the time he's wearing the halo. At least he'll be able to take SOME pressure off his hips. Tell them you're concerned about him getting decubitis ulcers (bedsores) from him being in the same position all the time. They may agree & try to work with his insurance company to make some arrangements. Good luck!
p.s. You may want to thank the ambulance crew who did their job to make sure he wasn't paralyzed! Without them, there would be a lot of people who weren't as lucky as your dad!Health Question & Answer
