Sharp Pain In Neck Below Skull Bone?!
Question: Sharp Pain In Neck Below Skull Bone.?
Every few weeks or so (its not regular) I get a really sharp pain on my right side directly below my skull bone on the back of my neck. I was just wondering what this is. Any ideas.? Thanks!Health Question & Answer
Answers:
Yes, It is tension in your occipital muscles. These muscles attach the 1st couple spinal bones to your skull. Knots in these muscles can cause a headache as well.
Two things to do:
1- massage the muscles. Reach back to the base of your skull and gently massage the muscles in a circular motion.
2. Get a good neck pillow like this one: http://www.arc4life.com/site/615058/page...
It will help align the neck and reduce this muscle tension.
Good luck. Hope you feel better.Health Question & Answer

I'm far from a doctor "green". Well maybe a music doctor but I get pinched nerves once in awhile that persist for awhile like every couple weeks and then I don't get them for a year. I believe it's usually just related to stress, tension and over exhaustion. Who am I to say though. A good massage of the neck area usually helps.Health Question & Answer
It's probably a tension headache. I get these from time to time too, and they usually come with stress. Do the sides of your head also hurt.? Maybe it feels like you're wearing a really tight headband, or someone is pressing on the sides of your head.
It's probably not very serious, and I'd recommend applying heat and relaxing for a little bit. Take some painkiller.
If it becomes really persistent and/or severe, see a doctor. Health Question & Answer

nerve pain... shooting pain means nerve... maybe your occiput/c1 or c1/c2 needs to be adjusted.
Pain meds will only mask the problem, not treat it.
