Question: Why can't you crush Keppra.?
I had a seizure after upping my dose by 1,000 but I was breaking the pills in half to swallow easier.

It is not an extended release (ER) but it does have to pass through much of your digestive system undigested in order to be effective. The drug needs to get into the lower intestine so it is coated. Crushing or even cutting it will cause the drug to become not as useful since it will not get to the proper receptors in the brain.Health Question & Answer
Because they put a special coating on them that only releases a certain amount over a set period of time. So if you break it up then you get a massive dose all at once.Health Question & Answer
