Taking Ibuprofen and vicodin is it safe?!
Question: Taking Ibuprofen and vicodin is it safe.?
I had a root canal done the other day, I'm in severe pain, was prescribed vicodin 500mg, and I also been taking ibuprofen 800mg for swelling. Every 4 hours I take Vicodin & Ibuprofen off and on, like for instance at 1:00 I take Vicodin and at 5:00 I take ibuprofen and 9:00 I take Vicodin and so on. Is this safe.? It makes me really tired, but if I don't do it, I have a lot of pain! I don't want to overdose or anything like that. Thanks.Health Question & Answer

Ooh, I feel your pain. Anyway, keep taking the ibuprofen because it deals with the inflammation caused when that nasty dentist played in your mouth. That is why your jaw may be swollen. It will also take a way the pain. The vicodin is an analgesic...it just works on taking away the pain. As for feeling tired, BOTH of the meds will make you tired. You need plenty of rest so that all of your blood flow works toward healing your poor mouth. also, be sure to take a little food like some crackers, soup, bread, or instant mashed potatoes with your ibuprofen. It can upset your tummy. In regard to your doses, read the label. Wean yourself 1st from the vicodin as soon as you get your pain under control. Those things are super addictive. You didn't get 500mg vicodins,, that is the tylenol in them,,, you'll be fine but the ibuprofen isn't going to help more than the hydrocodone,, the tylenol in the hydrocodone will help the swelling,,, and take them with milk or a cracker or they might upset your tummy
