How bad do injuries get when you are older? ?!

Question: How bad do injuries get when you are older.? .?
I've been training mixed martial arts and competing in boxing and jiu jitsu for about 4 1/2 years now and have been reasonably careful. I haven't had any serious injuries but have had some nagging ones like my shoulder that has bothered me for a couple years now, pulled my back before, tore a calf muscle, broke a couple fingers...

I'm 26 right now and in good shape and all but i have noticed when i get hurt now its more "annoying" then it was a few years ago so i was wondering how bad things like that can get when you're in your 40s and after.

So anyone who is around that age and knows what they're talking about, how much do these small/medium injuries you get in your 20s bug you when you're older.?

also how much affect will the lack of conditioning you have when you're older have, obviously no matter how much you exercise when you are older it will be far less than 3 intense training sessions a week. I know your joints get used to this stuff and if you don't do it for a while you definitely start to get out of shape pretty quick.Health Question & Answer

This question grabbed my attention because my son sells and also assists in surgery, orthopedic replacement joints. He told me that my generation ( I am 58 years old ) will keep him in business for a long time because we thought we were invincible and we also pushed ourselves harder then we should of when we aged.

At 49 I was in prime shape. I looked 30ish and I swam hour laps daily. Did Yoga and stretched and walked half hour a day.
I was walking briskly at the age of 49 and cut a cornor and my feet went out from under me and I heard a snap and I landed on the street on my face. I remember saying out loud " I sure hope that crack was a branch" Well, it was my leg just above the ankle. I had the doctor so convinced that he had to have the wrong Xrays that he went back to make sure I told him I was in shape and I don't break my bones.
Well, he progressed to tell me that it would take a long time to heal because of my age. I told him, no I will heal quickly. I am sorry to say that he was right about the slower healing process.
Then a couple of years later I was in a nasty car accident and I am still paying the price of someone elses mistake.

Yet, I don't feel like an old lady, but I am defiantly not what I used to be and that is for sure.

No matter how in shape some older people are, they still get heart attacks and broken bones and old injuries that turn in to Arthitis.

I am paying the price of my intense snow skiing. To this day I still feel the knee injure that only slowed me down for an hour then I pressed past the pain. Very stupid.

My hips have arthritis and my fingers arn't as cordinated as they used to be. My brain has slowed down and that really bugs me big time.

But, in other ways my life is wonderful and amazing. Ways that I never dreamet that would be.

I am an adovcate of embracing every age a person is in.

i had a friend who was 38 he was a bodyguard and kept ontop af all martial arts and spent 3 hours a day in the gym but if he laxed a simple arm wrestle would put his back out into so much pain he was in agony to move i think its all about knowing your limits as you get older and understanding your not as young as you used to be.its time to take better care of yourself getting massages and eating right. Health Question & Answer

Have you had a look at Chuck Norris lately.? He's a pretty good example of young to older.

Our bodies have a way of slowing themselves down without our consent or permission, and it's pretty evident it is in order to avoid injury. It is a natural event. Try as one might, they just don't seem to have the energy they had in their 20's, then 30's, etc. Its onset is gradual and a natural occurrence. One day, you just say to yourself, "hey, I don't have as much energy as I used to"!! And you catch yourself using a little more tylenol.
