I assume you did your best during the time you were babysitting her.
I cannot say that you were careless, I am sure you did the best you could so this child or any other children you babysat, to be in a good safe place. It is unfortunate that the child slipped but tell yourself that you cannot exempt children from tripping. Sometimes toddlers trip over their own feet, so what is there to do. You can protect the children as best you can and the rest you hope for the best. You cannot have toddlers wear stafety helmets and face masks for protection. So be in peace, relax as much as you can and do explain to the parents exactly what happened.

Hon, you did the right thing in texting her mother. For the time being, the ice is a good idea but you should keep a lookout for any more swelling or bleeding, she may need to be seen at the docs office to make sure all is fine. In the future, when you know the child is coming to your house you need to either put up one of those baby gates to keep her away from dangerous spots or child proof your house so she doesn't injure herself anymore. As a babysitter, it is your responsibility to ensure her safety 100% of the time hon, otherwise you may not be mature enough to care for a young child.Health Question & Answer
