Is it possible that I will throw up after donating blood?!

Question: Is it possible that I will throw up after donating blood.?
I donated once before and afterwords I felt dizzy and nauseous.
Almost to the point where I was about to throw up. But, I made it through without doing anything embarrassing.

During most of the procedure I felt fine and fear of needles isn't really an issue.

Is getting sick and possibly throwing up just a natural bodily reaction to losing that much blood.?
And should I expect to get just as sick the 2nd time around or will the after effects be easier to handle.?

Its been a little over a year since last time I donated.

Thanks! Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Yes, feeling dizzy and nauseaus after donating blood is normal. Most centres have juice and cookie stations for after a person has finished donating blood, you should go there, have some juice and cookies and wait till the feeling passes. If you do get sick, don't worry, your not the first and won't be the last. If you are worried, mention it to the nurse that is facilitating your donation and she will keep a vigilant eye on you. also you could ask for the blood to be removed at a slower pace, which should help lower the dizziness and nausea.Health Question & Answer

Make sure you are well-hydrated and have eaten an hour before donating. Just the stress of donating the first time could have caused your symptoms. Feeling a little light-headed is perfectly normal and usually passes quickly which is why they like you to have a snack and wait at least 5 minutes before leaving after donating.Health Question & Answer

well, you should make sure you eat before donating and drink plenty of water, this should stop that feeling.Health Question & Answer
