Question: How do you handle shots when afraid of needles.?
I'm getting a shot today, and I'm deathly afraid of needles. what should i do to while i'm getting the shot.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Same for me!

Tell the nurse you're squeemish, first off.

I look the other way - and think about something soothing - like lying on the beach. I also hold on to something with my other hand.

I don't like lying down - I feel out of control that way.

Good luck!

Health Question & Answer

I have always found it easier to watch. The last time I got a shot, the flu shot, I didn't even feel it. I think you should let them know that you are scared and they can help you through it. Maybe ask if you can get it somewhere other than your arm. For a while I got a shot once a month and when I got married I didn't want it in my arm because it was sore the next day so I got it in my hip/butt and I didn't even feel it the next day.Health Question & Answer

Close your eyes and take deep breaths. Tell the person administering the shot that you are scared (and don't be embarrassed, thousands of grown-up men and women suffer from needle phobia). Don't get up right away after the shot as you may be a bit dizzy.

Tell yourself over and over that getting a needle hurts a lot less than many other things you may have done like scraping your knee or stubbing your toe.

It may sound crazy, but you might want to consider getting your ears pierced. I used to be a needle-phobe and once I got those earings, I knew that needles weren't a big deal since I got earings put in and survivied that.

Good luck! It will all be over in a few quick seconds.Health Question & Answer

Just don't look at the needle. Try to relax your arm and it won't hurt. I hate needles too, but I much rather get a shot and have blood drawn. Shots are quick and normally painless.Health Question & Answer

tell the nusre to do it fast and as she is doing it take a deep breath in and when its all done breath out and it works great
Health Question & Answer

tell the nurse and and have them talk to you about something else. Don't look at the needle while it's going in.Health Question & Answer
