Chicken Gone Bad! Poisoned Me?!

Question: Chicken Gone Bad! Poisoned Me.?
Yesterday, I ate some chicken strips that were leftovers in my 'fridge!!! They had only been in there a couple of days and they still looked and smelled fresh to me, but around 4 am, my stomach began to say otherwise!!! I stayed in bed tossing and turning and when I got up this morning around 6:30 am, I felt a wave of nausea sweep over me and had to run to the bathroom to do you-know-what!!! Although, I didn't actually vomit, but I did feel better later!!! Afterwards, I ate some food because my stomach was extremely empty, but now, not 20 mins ago, my stomach began to hurt all over again and I felt like throwing up once more!!! So, were those chicken strips really bad and did they poison me.? What happens when you have food poisoning and when will it finally go away.?Health Question & Answer

You will get sick and can have abdominal cramping, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, chills. It can be mild or severe depending on exactly what made you sick. If is was the chicken strips, it really is going to depend on if they made you sick because of a bacteria or a virus and which one. Most of the time food poisoning will get better and the person will be just fine. You need to keep yourself hydrated. If you are vomiting and losing fluids it won't take long for dehydration to overcome you. Take little sips of water throughout the day. You might want to see a doctor if you are sick longer than two days. also, if you get a fever above 101 degrees F or can't keep any liquids down you need to see a doctor. Other symptoms that you should watch for are whether or not your abdominal pain or sharp stomach pain lasts for more than 15 minutes, if you feel weak or pass out, your stomach swells, your eyes or skin turns yellow, you vomit blood or pass blood in your stool, you stop urinating or your urine is decreased or dark in color, have trouble speaking, breathing or swallowing, one or more joints swell or you develop a rash on your skin. Seek medical help immediately because it is now a medical emergency. It is best with this kind of illness that you let someone else know you are sick and get them to check in on you or even stay with you if you are alone. That way if an emergency situation develops and you are not capable of getting yourself help, someone is there to make that happen for you. I have had food poisoning before and the only sickness I can say was worse was meningitis. Take care and hope you are feeling better soon. Health Question & Answer

Its hard to tell from what you are saying. Usually when somebody with posioning will vomit. But not always. If it was, just let it take its course. If you still are sick by tomorrow call your doctor. If you get cold sweats, or become lightheaded and weak, get yourself to a hospital just to be safe. It could be nothing, but it could be something. Plenty of rest, fluids and light foods (no acid, like orange juice, butter, etc etc).Health Question & Answer

It sounds like food poisoning...a lot of things can cause it...dirty hands from someone using the bathroom then touching your food...leaving food out to cool instead of putting extra food straight into the fridge...etc.

Just let it happen & keep throwing up, its your body's way of kicking the bad food out...if the vomiting &/or diarrhea don't stop by tomorrow afternoon, you need to see a doctor...drink plenty of fluids...the worst danger is dehydration. My fiance just had a horrible case of food poisoning (from chicken at a restaurant)...he was throwing up & had severe diarrhea all night, and he couldn't go pee, he would drink water, and the water would come out when he went poop! He had to go to the hospital because he was severely dehydrated, needed 2 IV's...and we got a HUGE bill for it afterward!
