Question: Stiff neck, causing pain for my grandma. Any remedies, or gadgets.?
My grandma is very ill. Alot of it I can't take away, but I often give her neck massages to help ease the discomfort.
But her neck is unbelievably stiff. The worst I've ever massaged -coming from someone who heavily looked into being a massage therapist.
For an early x-mas present, I'm hiring a massage therapist. But are there also any gadgets that help.? Or advice.?

Try moist heat before the massage. Take a towel, soak it with hot water, ring it out then wrap it around the back of her neck. Do this several times at least twice a day. Three would be better. After the heat treatment, massage her neck starting at about the middle of the back, by the shoulder blades, and work up to behind the neck at the base of the skull. When you reach the muscles going up to the base of skull, put a little extra pressure there and hold, then go up as far as you can. Afterward rub her neck using some Aspercreme or any topical pain cream. Wishing you the very best young lady and a pat on the back for taking care of Grandma. You must really love her. A massage therapist is a good idea. You might also consider a chiropractor. I have terrible neck pain as a result of some neck curvature abnormalities and I have worked with a chiropractor to correct this. It does work. Kudos to you for taking care of your grandmother!Health Question & Answer

Its sold in some health stores,some pharmacies.
Its a foot long sausage shaped cloth thing with seeds or rice inside.
You can also make it yourself from a knee high sock.
Fill sock with rice(uncooked) and tie a knot on the end or sew it shut.
