What Causes Heart 'Flutters' [palpatations]?!

Question: What Causes Heart 'Flutters' [palpatations].?
And when should you be concerned enough to see a doctor about them.?

I've had them for a long time usually just when i drink alot coffee of have too much sugar in a day, they have only happened once every week-month if not longer

But today i've had like...10.? its strange i've never had more than two in one day and its kinda freaking me out I guess. I'm just wondering If maybe they are caused by stress, which could be explained, or If itcould be something more serious.? should i just wait and see if it keeps happening or is this already too much.? haha i really dont know so any ideas would be helpful. Thanks!Health Question & Answer

I've had the same problem since I was around 15 years old (I'm 28 now). My doctor assured me that it is just my body's way of saying it has had way too much junk (caffeine, nicotine, stress, etc.).
I also suffer from depression and anxiety so, the palpitations go hand in hand with that.
But, if you are ever worried then you should see your doctor. You would rather be safe than sorry. He'll probably order some tests to make sure everything in your heart is functioning properly.

The more you notice them the more there are. Really most people have some all the time but until they take notice they are nothing. Then all of a sudden they start to worry and the worry produces more, usually from adrenaline.
That you notice them from caffeine, stress or other stimulants is also normal.
Normally they are not serious. it takes a lot more for you to go into defib, where you heart just jumps around and can't pump the blood right.
Try a simple breathing mediation and see if you just forget about them.
One that is taught to those going into or just coming out of combat situations is real simple.
Breath in for a count of 4, Hold for 7, breath out through pursed lips (some mild back pressure) for 8.
Repeat at least 4 times. Most people keep it up for 5 or 10 minutes. Keep allowing your counting to slow as it is easier for you to hole your breath.
There are plenty of other simple calming exercises on the web.
If the flutters also produce a shortness of breath see a doc.Health Question & Answer
