Is knee pain pretty common?!

Question: Is knee pain pretty common.?
I've always thought it was normal because I have always had it, since I was a little kid, but recently I read that like 1 in 5 elderly people have knee pain or something.?.?.? That's a pretty low statistic for me, isn't it.? I'm 23!

Well, for as long as I remember, since I was maybe 4, I've always had this tendency or urge to curl up in a ball or bend my knees. When I was a kid, I would curl up real tight when I went to bed. Even now when I sit, I just can't sit with my feet flat on the floor, so I usually end up crossing my legs, sitting indian-style, or sitting with my knees curled up to my chin.

Once I connected the pain to this bad habit of mine, I tried to stop, and while I definitely do it less often I still haven't been able to stop completely. I didn't used to feel the pain very often, but the frequency has increased to at least once a week. It sucks! I'm not old yet! Is this normal or are my knees totally deformed or something.?

I've recently noticed that if I massage my thighs, which get really tight, the pain eventually goes away....?Health Question & Answer

Hey Toy,
I also have knee troubles from running track. Knee pain is very common in nowadays in both athletes and people who sit in contorted positions like you used too.
Generally, when I start feeling any pulsating pain within my knee I put my knee brace on. A knee brace is a very good investment as it places pressure on the exact areas to reduce the pressure of tendons and muscles upon the joint. I recommend McDavid supports. The reason the pain decreases as you massage your thighs is because it releases the tension in ligaments and tendons that cause your knee pain. If you experience any swelling you should take some Ibuprofen to reduce the swelling. also, try sleeping with your knee elevated 2 - 4 inches. If the pain continues, see a physical therapist.
