The doctors surgery opens in an hour - Would you take your child or is it just a cold?!

Question: The doctors surgery opens in an hour - Would you take your child or is it just a cold.?
No bitchy 'what you asking on Yahoo' comments, whatever. The Doctors are closed at the min but do open soon.

My 16 month old son isn't very well, he's not ill as such, but hes felt warm for over a day or two, hes moaning alot, red cheeks, now a runny nose, but hasn't eaten a meal since Saturday night.

He is drinking lots, and eating yoghurts but nothing else. (Could that just mean his teeth are hurting.?) I can't see any new ones cutting though.

He's not happy in himself though. Am I worrying over nothing or would you just take your child anyway.?

Ive been to the Doctors and hospital a lot of times with Harry and they have always said no your worrying over nothing. Etc.

So am I worrying over nothing now.?Health Question & Answer

If you have given him a fever reducer and kept him warm enough then by all means take him in. It probably is just a cold but little ones like this can end up with ear infections easily as the tube has not curved yet.

\He may not need an anitbiotic and I rarely see the necessity for pushing them but you can piggy back meds. Ask the doc about that though as s/he can tell you better.

Kids this age won't starve themselves so don't worry about the eating right now, try offering jelly too he may have a sore throat and since he is so young he can't tell you this.

Good luck!Health Question & Answer

Just to be safe take him to the doctor when it opens. It can't hurt to check can it.? It sounds like a common cold but you never know, it could be more serious.
Good luck
And I hope harry gets better
Congrats on the up and coming baby!Health Question & Answer

Take him if it is going to make you feel better and not worry. To me it just sounds like a cold but you are his mum so do what you think is right. You would know more than anyone if he's not himself.Health Question & Answer

Just go. You're always better safe than sorry with children.

If he's not eaten properly since Saturday then I'd say your concerns are justified.

Hope he's better soon! xHealth Question & Answer

take him especially if he has a fever, little kids can't be hot for a long time or they run the risk of problems including siezures that can cause brain damage and other problems. Health Question & Answer

I might if I was in your position.... Just in case. :DHealth Question & Answer

Most of the time Mommies do worry a bit too much. First time Mommies more so. I suggest, taking his temp every 3 hours for a 24 hour period and recording it. If it rises above the 100 mark and remains there for more than a 3 hour period, try some baby Tylonal and a luke warm bath( luke warm is just bordering on warm and is meant to cool the system without shocking it). Play with the baby in the tub so he does not get fidgety and keep him in there for at least 15 minutes.
Cut down on the Yogurts, they have active bacteria in them which in moderate amounts is good for the digestive system bit not so good if that is the maimstay of his diet( to much of a good thing is BAD). This could be giving him tummy aches and possibly causing the fever. Feed him whatever you are having for meals, if you need to, put it in a blender and mash it up good so it feels like Yogurt in his mouth.
Children sometimes get on little kicks about what they want to eat and refuse to eat anything else. Believe me they will NOT starve themselves to death. Unless they are terribly sick they may go for a day or so and not eat what you give them, as long as they are getting enough fluids they will be fine. Eventually they will get hungry enough and will eat just about anything! Ask your Pediatrician about this, I am not being cruel. Just a Mommy who has been through it before!
If though his temp remains above 100 for more than 24 hrs and you have tried the above remedies, take him to the Dr. and bring the record of his temps( taken every 3 hrs) with you. also a list of what he has eaten and drank over that same period. I hope this helps.~~ One Mommy to another!Health Question & Answer

I've been through this myself with two girls so, in my experience I think your son will be fine. It sounds like he has a virus and it will have to run it's course.
My doctor always told me as long as they are drinking a lot of fluid then they will be just fine. Eating is not as important as drinking.
I would give him another day or two and if nothing improves then take him in.
In the meantime make sure that you keep him warm, well rested, plenty of drinks, and if he doesn't feel like eating then have him nibble some toast.
Good luck!Health Question & Answer
