I just got my blood sugar level tested?!

Question: I just got my blood sugar level tested.?
Hello!

I just had my doctor measure my blood sugar level, and it was a bit low (2.8). Does that mean anything.? It was a random test.Health Question & Answer

If this was not done fasting, it does not tell you much. Random blood sugar readings are a bit useless. However, 2.8, which is on the European scale equates to 50 in the US scale and 50 is too low.

If the doctor did not tell you what to watch out for, he should have and I would go back and kick him in the pants. Low blood sugar can cause you to get shaky, weak, and even have black outs. drastic low sugars can cause a diabetic coma. Low blood sugars are called HYPERGLYCEMIA, high blood sugars are called HYPOGLYCEMIA.

the problem with low sugars, if you don' t realize that you have them, is that the reaction often sneaks up on you. I would keep either some hard candy, fruit juice, or something with sugar in it to take when you feel weak. A better option would be to take a couple of the Glucose pills which you can purchase at the pharmacy (Chemist/apothecary) store. Don't eat them. It will take between 30 and 60 minutes for them to register.

Frankly, I would call the doctor back and ask him or his nurse what to do. Health Question & Answer

Good day ,your blood sugar level is a bit low as the dr stated ,it might not necessarily mean any thing but the best thing is to eat something now after the check and to check what you have been eating lately and just have it tested regularly once a month and find out if it runs genetically in your family ,if someone has diabetes. The other thing is that you also have to check with how active you are during the day with your exercise or sport regime ,because your body does use sugar to generate energy for the body .Hope that this information helpsHealth Question & Answer

I don't think that 2.8 is anything to worry about.
Diabetes only usually occurs when the BSL is "sky high" and if you did have diabetes, then you would know about it by now.
As you said, eating candy before the test would definitely have made it lower, as would exercise.
I don't think you have anything to worry about but, if you are worried, get your doctor to check it out again.
