Do you get dizzy after donating a pint of blood?!

Question: Do you get dizzy after donating a pint of blood.?
Answers:
It depends on the person, but no, usually not. Your body can take giving up a pint of blood pretty well. People make a really big deal over donating blood, but you really have nothing to worry about, as long as your in good health.
If you know that your iron levels are usually low, take iron supplements about a week before you donate. They red cross tells you to drink extra fluids (water) a day before the donation. You should do this, but if you forget, like I did, just drink drink drink before your donation. My appointment was at 1:30 pm and I drank three bottles of water in the hours before it. I was running back and forth to the bathroom like crazy, but my donation went very quickly because of all the liquids i drank and my blood moved out faster.
After the donation, you usually won't feel very dizzy. Alot of people I talked to at the drive just felt kind of spacy afterwards. Out of the 145 people that donated, only 3 of them had incidents where they had to lay down with cold towels on their heads for a few minutes before they were okay.
And for the actual donation process, you really don't even feel the needle in your arm. It is the smallest pinch when it first goes in, but thats it. You just lay there and talk to who ever's around for about 10 minutes. Then your all done!Health Question & Answer

I've had different reactions when giving blood. The first time I was dizzy only when I was cooking and the steam got too me others I felt nothing unusual. The symptoms usually have more to do with the available iron stores you have in your body. If you had enough iron in your blood before donation doesn't mean you will temporarily have enough for yourself after donation causing the dizziness. also if you are dehydrated at the time of donation even if just slightly it could cause the dizziness along with being a diabetic. If the dizzy feeling continues I'd seek a doctor. In the mean time get you some slow release iron pills to supplement yourself and drink plenty of water and get lots of rest.Health Question & Answer

It depends how your body is. If you're slightly anemic or have low blood pressure, you might. If you're the kind that tends to faint or get dizzy from doing simple tasks such as standing up, you might.

Make sure you eat and drink plenty of fluids before donating. Trust me, I learned the hard way with that one. Oh, and don't drink caffeine within 24 hours before donating.Health Question & Answer
