How can I treat my wrist pain?!

Question: How can I treat my wrist pain.?
Im 17 and used to play World of Warcraft for many hours a day for 2 years straight. I started getting pain in the left side of my right wrist near the palm of my hand 3 months ago. It is slightly swollen, but it isnt really noticeable. When I move my wrist downward i can feel the bones move together. I don't think it is arthritis because I am so young.

My mom won't take me to the doctor because she thinks it will be a waste of time. I've tried using a wrist brace, but it only made the pain worse. I have stopped playing PC games all together and the although my wrist has gotten slightly better, it still hurts to use a mouse and sometimes when i write. Im pretty sure i have tendonitis.
Is there anything else i can do to help with the pain.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Sounds like tendinitis, I've got it too.

--Icing reduces swelling (don't use heat, it will increase the swelling). Ice at least once a day, more if you do something that requires a lot of wrist movement, like writing (ice right afterwards).
--take ibuprofen to reduce the swelling and help w/ the pain. 900mg 3x a day until you notice a reduction in the swelling and pain. But do not use for an extended period of time, probably no more than a month. (Assuming a 17yr old can take that much.?).
--if you're not down w/ ibuprofen, go to a health food store and buy some Bromelain (ask them for the dosage). It doesn't work as fast, but it definitely works.
--your brace may have hurt because you didn't buy the right size or type. Many of those bought in retail drug stores suck. Those are best purchased at what is called Sports Medicine shops, which are often near hospitals. The braces will cost more, but worth it. Keep in mind you don't want one w/ rough stitching that will rub against your skin. Plus those people can tell you how to use it, people often put them on too tight. Another thing to consider, don't use it all the time if you can tolerate it. Using it 24/7 will only weaken your wrist which is no good so don't get in the habit, but if your pain is that bad use it 24/7 until the swelling and pain go down - then use it just when you go to bed, until you don't need it anymore. Sometimes it's good to have sharp pain reminders so you can regulate how you use your wrists and train yourself to use them neutrally.
--whatever you do, make sure to use your wrist in a neutral position as much as possible, don't bend it if you can help it.
--then of course don't do anything that will aggravate it further and be careful not to favor the other hand to the point you may aggravate it and get tendinitis in both wrists.
--only when you're swelling and pain have gone down should you do some strengthening exercises.

Do these things and you should be good. Don't take care of it and it will get worse. Mine got so bad I couldn't get dressed or brush my teeth! There was even one time I had such a sharp pain I thought my boyfriend stabbed me accidentally w/ a knife.
Hope this helps.Health Question & Answer

Yes it is probablly tendonitis caused by overuse.
The best thing for it if you cannot convince your mother to take you to the docter is ice and ibuprofen (ibuprofen when needed).

If you were to visit a physical therapist and have an evalutation you would know what exactly is wrong with your wrist. However, seeing a physical therapist and/or orthapedist is a long process and sometimes can be a wasted effort.

also, depending on what area of your wrist hurts there are certain stretches you can use to help ease the muscle.Health Question & Answer

I still have my tendonitis a month after it started. FRom being on here too often by the way. Anyway, anti infamitories are good for it, as is pain killers. You have to immobilize the area and dont use it. Apparently there is an anti inflammatory drug the doctor can give to get rid of it straight away. So badger your mum until she takes you!Health Question & Answer

Tape it in the painful area, rather than use a brace this will help with the discomfort. Ice once an hour for about 12 min and 800 mg of Ibuprofen every 6 hrs as needed. Health Question & Answer

You COULD have arthritis, especially for how much you played. My friend has arthritis from football and he's 18.Health Question & Answer
