Closed my pinky in the trunk of my car. Eventually got it out. But now a completely blue fingernail. HELP!?!

Question: Closed my pinky in the trunk of my car. Eventually got it out. But now a completely blue fingernail. HELP!.?
So, I closed my finger in my trunk 2 nights ago. And thank god that I had my keys on my body to open the trunk and I got it out after ten-twenty seconds. Well a little blood from below the nail at first. Then later that night it was blue about 1/2 the way up and THROBBING. I couldn't sleep at all.

On Thanksgiving night I used a hot sewing pin to 'drill' a hole into the center of the nail and a tiny drip of the blue blood seeped out.

Now today it is about 90% dark blue and throbbing at some times. However today I can not bend my pinky without feeling harsh pain from the nail. So I tried again with the hot pin and this time I got a bigger drip of red blood seep out of the nail. However still blue under the nail.

Well, my questions are:

- Is the blue blood under my nail supposed to come out after drilling the hole.?

- I know my fingernail is going to come off eventually and I mostly want to know when it will come off.? Am I looking at a couple of weeks or months.? I just bought a new baseball glove and I would do anything to be able to put my hand inside and feel how it is lol

- Once the nail is off, am I going to feel pain.? If so, how long will the pain last for.?

- also, is there any chance I broke the top bone in my pinky.? It's pretty swollen and about twice the size of my other pinky, and I can not bend it. I hope not though..

Thanks for all your help!

I can upload pictures also if needed!Health Question & Answer

Yes the nail will most likely fall off. There shouldn't be any pain once the nail comes off, although it may be sensitive because there is no nail to protect the end of your finger. Yes your finger sounds broken, is there any numbness if so this is normal from swelling because the nerves in the fingers are compressed. You will need to go and see your doctor, broken fingers are a little more serious than a toe, a lot of people let toes to heal by themselves ( i did when i was younger ) but with a finger if it heal incorrectly it may cause problems with task later in life. Basically what the doctor will to is put it in a finger splint. All of the dexterity should return to the finger within a few weeks. Even though it is common for a broken finger to heal slightly crooked, movement should not be restricted. Hope i helped. God bless. First of all, who on earth told you to poke a hole in your finger.?.? You shouldnt do that. Second, if your nail is blue it will probably fall off but it will grow back.Health Question & Answer

It's just a bruise I think..?Health Question & Answer

If it is still throbbing, you didn't get enough blood out. You might wanna "drill" it again with a hot needle and let it drain again. Your nail has a lot of pressure due to the blood and once it is drained you will feel instant relief. If you think it might be broken, then go get x-rayed. But I think you will feel more relief once it is drained. And you are right, your nail will fall off and you will regrow a new one. It won't hurt because it won't fall until the new nail is pushing through. If you consume garlic or take garlic pills, the nail will grow really fast! Good Luck!Health Question & Answer

Please stop "drilling" a hole and get it xrayed to see if you fractured it. Usually throbbing is the sign of fracture. Yes you will most likely lose the nail and if you don't lose all of it, it can be numbed by a doctor and cut all the way off. A new nail will grow back and will take some time. The possible fracture should be your first worry and then tackle the nail problem. New nails grow back thin at first and may be a little tender. See a doctor and get an Xray. In the meantime, rest the finger and keep putting ice on it to help with the swelling. Then get the Xray. The more the swelling, the possible fracture can be hard to detect. You can get infection or blood poisoning by poking holes in yourself.Health Question & Answer
