Question: My heel hurts really bad. I think it is because of Plantar Faciatus. What can I do to relieve the pain.?
Answers:
Having had a similar problem due to landing hard on my heal after a jump, my doctor recommended buying heal inserts for my shoes to pad the heal, and to tale 3 over-the-counter strength ibuprofen tablets 4 times a day for up to two weeks to reduce inflation an speed healing.
I took her advice, but found that after 5 days I could reduce the ibuprofen dose. In two weeks the problem cleared up almost completely. I continued using the padded inserts for about a month to six weeks and by that time I could find no lingering evidence of a problem.
Health Question & Answer

Your symptoms are probably due to plantar fasciitis, or possibly a heel spur.

Plantar Fasciitis is a painful inflammatory condition causing heel pain and in some people, heel spurs. It can also result in arch pain. Plantar Fasciitis is often caused by abnormal pronation of the foot and improper arch support. Contributing factors are weight gain, intense physical activity, jobs that require a lot of walking or standing on hard surfaces, or shoes with poor arch support.

A heel spur is a bony growth on the heel bone (calcaneus). Heel spurs can cause sharp foot pain at the bottom or front of the heel bone. Heel spurs and heel pain can be caused by plantar fasciitis. Continuous pulling of the fascia at the heel bone eventually leads to the development of this painful bony growth on the heel.

The website below is the Mayo Clinic information on this problem. One of the last sections, which you can click on, is home remedies and it has several things you can try.
The second website is from eOrthopod and tells you about foot anatomy and the plantar fascia. You might find something else it could be as you look around.
The third website is all about podiatrists, foot doctors. If you need treatment, either an orthopedist who specializes in the foot or a podiatrist who does nothing but feet can help you.
Treatment options generally include rest, injections and potentially surgery.
Take care.Health Question & Answer

all of the suggestions here are better than any i could offer... seeing an orthopedic doctor was going to be my suggestion, another is that you get some comfort insoles for your shoes... you may need custom made ones... those run about $300... if purchased through a chiropractor that practices atlas orthogonal care... or about $600 if purchased from an orthopedic doctor... expensive, but it will relieve the pain. Your problem could stem from bad posture and your weight may not be distributing evenly, causing pain... you could also be flatfooted, and if so, the insoles will help. But I'm not a doctor... so you should check with a doctor if the pain is severe.

Hope you find relief!Health Question & Answer

One of the simple causes (I know this is going to sound so strange) is bed sheets that are too snug - your legs and feet have to hyperextend and that can cause distress to the muscles and tendons. Something you might try is loosening up the bottom of the bed so your feet have plenty of slack and room to put your feet straight up. You also might try bandaging your feet at night to keep the ankles stable. Something important - you absolutely need to add more water to your diet because muscles tend to shorten and spasm when the body is dehydrated; AND take some calcium/magnesium tablets - you can get from any drug store - the muscles also need those minerals to stay relaxed and pain free. And lastly, you might want to do some muscle stretches - very gently - during the day and before going to bed at night. good luck with this, hope it helps.
