How come humans lasted so long without dying out?!

Question: How come humans lasted so long without dying out.?
So long time ago there were no bathrooms and people just dumped their waste out in the street.?.? So everything stank and there was all kind of disease.

And there were no antibiotics and almost all the medicine we have today didn't exist long time ago.

And we have all kinds of advanced technology like xrays and mris and surgery and all kinds of medicines and vaccinations and flu shots

So how come with all the disease and lack of sanitary conditions, lack of soap and knowledge about germs and no medicines and technology and surgery how come all humans didn't just die long time ago. I know the plagues killed like 1/3 of the ppl in england or europe how come everyone in the world didn't die.?Health Question & Answer

Well, you only have to survive long enough to reproduce. And you only need one male for several women to reproduce. As long as sufficient numbers of the female population survive to reproductive age, the population numbers will climb. That applies to humans as well as any other species. Believe it or not, waste disposal wasn't usually a problem until or unless the population numbers rose and concentrated heavily in a particular spot. Even so, they didn't just dump it all into the street to stay. Most all places and people did make use of outhouses, and sewers/ditches, although they didn't work exactly like ours today. There were many herbal remedies to help in times of sickness, some of which are the original sources of some drugs we still use. You underestimate the power of the human immune system greatly, and that is exactly the explanation for how we all managed to survive, and continue to survive. You, like your ancestors, get bombarded on a minute to minute, second to second basis by germs of all sorts. Thanks to your immune system, you don't keel over and die from it. In some ways, our ancestors were probably better off immune wise because of the challenges they faced. While the plague was indeed deadly, even in that case some folks survived the bubonic form. They had those immunities to protect them, and there were also those who had a sort of natural immunity. We are all descendants of those folks, and that may be one reason why we haven't seen that repeat outbreak again. The plague bacterium is still around, to this day, and people do still get it. Antibiotics give them a fighting chance to survive, they don't "cure" it though. People even back then understood that disease spread between people somehow, and avoided contact with other sick folks. They did have soap, they just didn't tend to bathe a lot. Then again, our ancestors didn't tend to have asthma or allergies the way we do now. They also didn't have the amount of heart disease. They were probably in better physcial condition, since they had fewer labor saving devices, so did more actual physical labor. Anyway, we don't need diseases to keep our numbers down, and it won't be disease that likely would cause our species demise. We seem to be talented enough to devise ways to kill off larger numbers of our own than disease ever did. One atomic weapon can take out the city of New York in a flash. We are in the process of poisoning our own air, which won't really even bother most of the bacteria and viruses. The question is not really why disease didn't wipe us out way back then, but how long it will be before we manage to do it ourselves, all by ourselves.Health Question & Answer

We haven't lasted all that long, at least compared to, say how long the dinosaurs lasted. And it's not like tons of species of animals have died out because of a disease. Really, without our intelligence, we would be just like any other animal, acting on instinct. So, our brains just add to our survivability.Health Question & Answer

Well we had a stronger immune system and had animal instincts. We ate like once a day and walked for miles and miles for a small meal. a normal person may not survive back then. People got smarter, as we got smarter we lost our animal instincts, and our strong immune system with it.

As we clean and sanitize more, the weaker our immune system go. Because we'll be so used to something sooooo clean, that the moment a pathogen enters our body we get sick. Health Question & Answer

Simply put, we evolve just like any other organism to suit our surroundings. We are of completely different make up than the humans of thousands or even hundreds of years ago. It all depends on what our bodies need in order to survive.Health Question & Answer
