I was in a 4 year relationship with my ex boyfriend. We broke up in August as he is in a dangerous gang, i couldn't take it anymore. We have some of the same friends and whenever we some of my friends go for a night out and he's there with friends i try keep my distance from him and leave but he follows me out to 'talk'. although i still love for him i know i did the right thing. Anyway whenever im dancing he never takes his eyes off me, and gets pissed at me and calls me names. He gets into my face alot, he grabs my arm if i walk away. My friends are under the impression he is pissed off because am trying to move on. They also think part of the reason he is angry is because he screwed up badly and he doesn't want anyone else to have me. would that be true.?.I feel intimidated by him. He keeps telling me he wants me back.he wont back off me.

I don't know about the gang problem, but men whom are involved in these types of groups have anger issues from the start. Distance yourself from anything that he is involved in, including friends. He still wants you by what you've said and because he hasn't moved on, he most likely doesn't want you to move on with your life. I had to quit many relationships because of my safety and it was better to tell friends that you just can't be somewhere he will be for your own well-being. You might think you are the one who is causing the problem. You may think that his jealousy and abusiveness means he really loves you so much he can't control himself.
You would be wrong on any of those counts and statistics prove that beyond a shadow of a doubt. If your boyfriend is abusive now, he will not get better, he will get worse until one day he hurts you really bad or even kills you. It's that serious.

sounds dangerous and can be if he is in a gang. he sounds controlling and he may think he looks bad in front of his gang friends cus he cant control you like his gang friends control their girl friends... trust me you did the right thing stay a way from him.... there was a shooting across the street from me that was gang related she had a 2 year old and she was shot to death. Boys and gangs are never a good idea and I think with that mix there is always an element of "ownership" of a girlfriend. Obviously he is jealous, however the fact that he wants you back or not I think is irrelevant to the question. He's more likely insecure and doesn't want you to find someone else until he' got someone else. At the moment it's easier to be with a girl he knows and has been with for a while as that is a more sure thing than someone new where he would need to keep being insecure until he's with someone again. My suggestion to you is get out of the whole scene altogether and avoid anywhere where your ex may go.Health Question & Answer

Or you could make things even, like join a book club that he doesn't approve of.
If you really don't want anything to do with him, you wouldn't be going to the same places that he does. And if you do, then stay with your friends.And don't go off alone to make your self look available if you know that it is going to make him angry.
So I say, you take him back in to your life. OR completely cut your self off with him.
There is no "in-between" with ex lovers in this situation.
