Answers:
It can enhance the feel of a mattress that is too firm. However if the mattress is too soft then you cannot firm it up. If the 10-year-old mattress is loosing its support then you will still have a 10-year-old mattress with a depleted support system and no topper is going to fix that, it is only going to mask the core problem.
Look for a topper with a return policy. Many large dept. stores will let you return them.
