I cant fall asleep? ?!


Question: I cant fall asleep.? .?
I am 14 years old and it takes me around an hour to fall asleep. I dont know why this is and i'd really like to stop it. I think its insane for me to lay in bed and not be able to fall asleep. I don't have many problems or issues and i dont know why this is occurs. Does anyone know why.? and if so, how can i stop this.?Health Question & Answer

Probably a few different reasons going on.

1) Are you drinking any kind of Diet Soda with caffeine, or any caffeine at all after 4 or 5pm.? Even one can of caffeine during the day can affect your sleep. If you are, cut out the caffeine for a week or two and I bet it makes all the difference. Look on the side of the container, under the ingredients. It will list caffeine if it has it.

2) Stress. There is a good book I read in my 20's by Dale Carnegie called "How to Stop Worrying and Start Living". Your library will have it. You don' t have to read the entire book, just pick out a couple chapters that relate to any stress or worries you might have. This book will help you figure out how to deal with some of this stress. The less stress you have the better you sleep. Stress might be school work or tests, or friends, or family, or just about anything.

3) Yoga. I had a hard time falling asleep too. About 5 years ago I started taking a Yoga class 1.5 hours per week. My instructor liked to have us meditate the first 20 minutes. Meditation is just relaxation at an advanced level with breathing techniques. I thought it was a waste of time, until I discovered that I was sleeping 100% through the night for the first time in years, and If I have trouble going to sleep now I can meditate myself back to sleep in 5-10 minutes. You could read how to do this, but it is better to take a few Yoga classes that also incorporate breathing and meditation, or a class on meditation.

4) Exercise. How much are you exercising.? At least every other day do some type of physical activity. Play soccer, ride a bike 10 milwa, swim for an hour, walk 4 or 5 miles, play basketball, or whatever you like where you have a good workout, but don't get hurt, you will sleep like a baby.

5) This is sort of obvious, but make sure all the light in your room are off, even the VCR and the clock radio, just put something in front of the lights. And you need quiet too, no radio, or TV. Flip your cell phone upside down.

6) If all that fails, try reading non-fiction, maybe an auto-biography or something like that. I can usually only read for about 5-10 minutes before I start to nod off. Try not to watch TV an hour or two before you go to bed, it can stimulate the brain and keep awake.Health Question & Answer

I have the same problem. do ya take a nap late after school.? You could be stressed about knowing your aren't gonna fall asleep, which makes it harder. Those can contribute. I just soak in a nice hot bath and that normal helps my nerves and gets me to sleep better. I hope it helps. I know how frustrating it is.. especially with school and all.Health Question & Answer

yeah i have the same problem. it helps if you eat a banana about an hour before you go to bed. (something in it makes you tired) This is called sleep insomnia. if it lasts i would see a doctor. i think you can get some pills for that.Health Question & Answer

skin really does have it right. i use masturbation twice a day. to help me fall asleep and tohelp me wake up. it reall does help, believe it or not. give it a try bofore you to som doctor for prescriptions you dont need.Health Question & Answer
