Can dementia be passed down?!

Question: Can dementia be passed down.?
like, if your parent or grandparent had it, then you might have it too.?
and also, can you get it from your environment as well as your genes.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
from what i know (from high school classes and such, nothing professional), it can be genetic, but usually doesn't happen until a later age.
but environmental factors could speed it up, just depending on what is happening. there's also the possibility that it could be slowed, if there is a chance of this happening, by things in the environment. i've always heard that puzzles and mind games, brainteasers and other things that make your brain work, can help to prevent dementia.Health Question & Answer

Dementia can absolutely be hereditary. You cannot "get it" from your environment it's not a bacteria or a virus. They have just recently started making advances with this disease from finding ways to test if you have it or the gene and new medications to how to help prevent and slow it down.
Unfortunately there still is nothing that will stop it or cure it. Hopefully some day.Health Question & Answer

Dementia is a disease that effects the brain. Knowing your family history of such disease can help. It also effects each person differently and goes through various stages. It is important to seek medical attention if you or your love one have symptoms of dementia.Health Question & Answer
