Adult ADHD.................?!
Question: Adult ADHD..................?
Well, I was referred by my University Doctor to go get assessed for ADHD because she was convinced I had it. It took almost three months to get that referral through (so I don't have to pay anything) and finally I got an appointment with a Psychologist, it's going to be four two hour appointments.
My questions: Psychologists can't prescribe medication or diagnose as far as I know, how will this benefit me at all.? I don't just want a councilor, I want a diagnosis and treatment.
2) Why is it four two hour appointments.? What should I expect.? What was the assessment like if you took it.?Health Question & Answer

My family doctor referred me to a psychiatrist - who can prescribe meds. I sat with him for about 30 minutes. He said with adults, an oral history is enough - cognitive and behavioural tests are only really beneficial with children. It's probably going to be a big waste of your time - they'll probably make you take a bunch of BS tests on a computer and/or on paper.
Unless you have ADHD, no one understands it, even the so-called professionals. My own best friend doesn't even believe in it - or else thinks that "everyone" has it.
Sorry, I'm a little bitter. Not necessarily about having ADD, just everyone's attitude towards it.Health Question & Answer
