Unfortunately, it's not illegal for parents to say hurtful things. OTOH, it's also not illegal for you to tell them, point-blank, that this comment makes you feel terrible.

Why would it matter that abortion was legal when you were born.?
Are you distressed to discover that your parents had the legal right to terminate the pregnancy which eventually led to your birth.?
Are you upset that they did not choose to abort this pregnancy.?
No. Telling a person that abortion was legal at the time of their birth is not abuse.
If your parents frequently say something like "Abortion was legal when Mom was pregnant with you.You are lucky we didn't decide to have an abortion you ungrateful child." This might be considered verbal or emotional abuse. However, forget going to Child Protective Services for help with your conflict with Mom and Dad. CPS is very busy intervening in cases where children have been beaten, burned, raped or have severe malnutrtion.
If you still feel like you have a problem,you probably need professional help. If you are still school age, go to the guidance counselor or school nurse. If you have graduated o rdropped out of high school then go to a community mental health outpatient program. You probably don't need to be locked up in a mental hospital.Health Question & Answer

Are they saying this in a mean way .? Maybe they are just saying that abortion was legal , however they chose to have you rather than aborting you. Why does everyone always look at the negative .?
It's not illegal for them to say that to you just as it is not illegal for the things you may say in return. I don't know if they say it to you when you're fighting but to me it means they chose not to abort you .....Unless i"m missing something here , I would be glad. Health Question & Answer
It's different in different states. Where I live you can have an abortion before your second trimester. After that it is illegal. You can just tell your parents that they shouldn't have lied to you about that. Health Question & Answer
