Do you think I have a mental disorder?!
Question: Do you think I have a mental disorder.?
I will be twenty next month, I have been on antidepressants before. When I ran out I didn't go back for another prescription. My father is on the same medication I was taking. My aunt is Bipolar, another aunt and a few of my cousins are clinically depressed and one of my cousins is autistic. So mental disabilities/depression runs in my family. I have heard mental disorders are genetic.
What I really want to know is why when I encounter a problem in my relationship (we've been together for a year), it seems like it takes over my life. I think I have mini panic attacks. One minute I'm fine and optimistic and the next minute I start crying and I feel like I don't have control of my life. I feel like I'm going to ruin my relationship if this keeps up. I get so emotional and nothing makes sense and I get so frustrated.
I have a really hard time falling asleep. I get mad and snappy quite easily. I like things my way (who doesn't though). I hate not knowing how the future will turn out. Thoughts keep racing through my mind. I'm stressing out and it's affecting my school. (I've always been a good student, A's and B's) I haven't even been able to concentrate on homework or get anything done. All I do is worry and have anxiety. So when I start stressing I go shopping and spend money because it makes me feel better. Or I eat too much. (I'm not fat because I don't do that all the time, I'm generally healthy) Is this normal.? I don't feel like it is. I've decided to go to the doctor tomorrow. Do you think I'm bipolar.? Or depressed.? Or do you think I have anxiety.? Or anything else I haven't heard of.? Please give me advice. Health Question & Answer

If your doctor doesn't tend to "overprescribe" (plain exercise often works as well or better than many anti-depressants, according to studies), it sounds like you're making a good choice.

well you obviously have some type of anxiety issue. it sounds like you may be bipolar but hard to tell from what you said. I would avoid a regular doctor because all they do is prescribe you drugs. i would go to a therapist or psychologist. they are more equipped for these type of issues, deal with the problem through counseling, plus if necessary they can give you drugs. i think in your case you may still need drugs but maybe you need something different or a different dosage.
