Does drinking diet coke cause acid reflux?!


Question: Okay, been on a diet to help my acid reflux disease, and have lost 40 pounds, and it has helped immensly. I have however, started drinking around 3 diet cokes a day, and the last two nights, my symptoms have returned, to where it wakes me up at night and I can't sleep.

No, it can't cause the disease, but it does cause heartburn. I think it's the carbonation mostly, because diet sodas give me heartburn. Try switching to something diet and uncarbonated, or have one regular coke a day. Still, if you have damage like ulcers from the acid reflux, don't drink anything carbonated because that will just exacerbate the problem.

My father has had acid reflux for 3 years. According to his doctor , yes it is true that acid reflux can be a result of high carbonated drinks like;Mountaint Dew, Pepsi, Coke and Ginger Ale have been know to cause acid reflux. Simple use water in place of that drink and double the amount
