They took my blood and put me on drips straight away saying im lucky...I spent just over a week in hosp, so i was just wondering if its possible i could have permanant liver damage from that experiance.? ask your doctors. yes there is a chance that you could have permanently reduced the function of your liver. paracetamol kills you by killing your liver - it then can't get rid of poisons in your blood, and you die about a week later of acute liver failure. You took enough to damage your liver, its just whether the antidote was administered fast enough to prevent lasting damage. you can get your liver function tested by a blood test at your family doctor. you are indeed very lucky that you got to hospital quickly, you could have ended up needing a liver transplant.

If your really worried go ask your doctor. If you did have any problems with your liver, then the doctors would have told you when you were at the hospital, so you shouldn't worry. And by the way, you should report this guy: thecoldvoiceofreason because his answer was completely wrong and i'm pretty sure it violated the community rules.Health Question & Answer
All you need to do to make sure is go to your doc and ask for a blood test to be done.

There is actually a possibility you have liver damage, but you'll need tests to find out for sure. The 500 in the 30/500 means each pill contains 500mg paracetamol (acetaminophen). If you took 30 of them, that's 15000mg of paracetamol. According to research, definite liver damage can occur from a single overdose of around 24 pills (12000mg) especially if mixed with alcohol because they are both processed by the liver. Lethal overdoses have happened from even fewer pills, it depends on your tolerance.
You received treatment within 12 hours, which means you have a better chance for full recovery. If you are worried about longterm effects, ask your doctor to do a liver function test, it will pinpoint any possible concerns.Health Question & Answer
