An actual acute sinus infection (sinusitis) is caused by a bacterial infection. You have pus and fluid in your sinus. It may be tender to pound on it. Sinus xray will show air fluid level or complete opacification of sinus. You will have fever. Treatment is antibiotics---probably amoxicillin 500mg 4x/day. If no response, switch to augmentin or levaquin, etc. Also can give a strong decongestant, something like Rutuss tablets. Also, can irrigate your nose out with saline spray. Hot packs on sinus may help. If it won't clear up, you may need surgery to remove obstructing nasal polyps and to drain the sinus.

Thats for a real sinus infection. If you just got a cold, take some Dimetapp tablets or Actifed or Sudafed. No big deal.
