Can I go to work after varicocele surgery?!

Question: Can I go to work after varicocele surgery.?
I am diagnosed with varicocele near my left testicle and I am about to have a surgery.
Can I go to work next day after the surgery.? How long will it take to heal completely in the point where I say that I feel no discomfort.?Health Question & Answer

Takes two days until you feel like walking ok (the surgery is in the core of your body so it hurts to do anything at first).
After maybe 5 days to a week you can go to work if it isn't physical at all. You'll be really tender walking though. Like your afraid to stand up cause it hurts. It took a day or so for me to get over the anesthesia too.. but that's not such a big thing lol. I had it last April and it took until November to feel absolutely nothing (I also do martial arts, and i wasn't supposed to fight for that long in case i got hit there). But it's really just a funny pulling feeling, not so much pain after a few weeks. Something went wrong with my nerve for me, i can't feel my inner thigh, but that's really rare so you'll be fine. Just give yourself a few days and lots of ice, and sleep the whole day when you get home from the surgery, it really helps.Health Question & Answer

I'm guessing you're having this done as an outpatient.? Meaning you'll leave the hospital that day.? If so, you should be able to return to work in 48 hours. Generally patients are given a little sedation (like twilite) and you can't drive or make big decisions for 24 hours after the sedation. As for the discomfort....that depends on the person. What one person considers painful, another person may just consider it uncomfortable.
I work in Interventional Radiology, we do these procedures routinely on an outpatient basis; we don't cut into any delicate parts, just a small incision at the crease between leg and abdomen, and then work through the veins using small wires and catheters. Fairly painless, may be some discomfort later, as the veins leading to the varicocele are closed off. Patients go home later that same day.
Is that what you're going to have done.? I don't know. Some hospitals don't have Interventional Radiology. Hope this helpsHealth Question & Answer
