Will my sleeping pattern do harm to me in the long run ?!

Question: Will my sleeping pattern do harm to me in the long run .?
I have a very irregular sleeping pattern.

As i write this i've been up for 21 hours and i plan on staying up untill night time again.

I usualy stay up till about 4 or 5 am then wake up at nine then atleast one day through the week ill stay up for a full 24 hours or longer and then on ill sunday ill sleep in.

Right now this is having no effect on me, im never tired unless its getting closer to about 30 hours awake but other than that im fine.Health Question & Answer

I think your circadian rhythm (biological clock of sorts where it determines how your sleeping pattern would be and what kind of person are you - day-timer or nightlife person XD) is either haywire or, under strange circumstances that you are perhaps aware or not aware of, just found its natural rhythm (yeah, I know, what the heck O.o).

Experts often tell the public that about 6-8 hours of sleep are essential for the brain and body to rest. But what most of them never tell you is that there are some people out there whose sleeping patterns are never as conventional as the one they all asked as to believe in, and yet this never disrupt or cripple their lifestyles when they're awake - they just function as normal and cheerfully as a normal person would. You have to remember this: not everyone is the same.

I think I could relate to you on how you feel because, truth be told, I also used to have this problem too. This was back when I worked as a care aide in a hospital, and it was the first time I was introduced to shifts (morning, evening and night). After a few months, I couldn't go back to sleeping at 10 pm as I used to, I often slept after midnight or early in the morning, and I could only get myself 4-5 hours of sleep, no matter how hard I forced myself to lie in bed and doze off. Even when I set myself during a day off to sleep at night the way I used to, I couldn't. I would just stare off at the ceiling in the dark until I doze off, and when I do that, I get up the next morning even feeling more tired *sweat*. Oh well.

I was afraid back then that I had just gotten insomnia, so I went to see a doctor and asked him to prescribe a mild dosage of sleeping pills. You wanna know something.? It still didn't work O.O. After the prescribed supply was finished, still no change. I decided to let it be just like that, making do with it.

And then after a few months again, I slowly returned to my original sleeping time. I don't know how it happened - it just did. And it stayed that way ever since. Now I'm in campus, I sometimes stay up late up till midnight for studying or completing assignments, but otherwise, I can still go to sleep as normal, and get at most 7-8 hours of snooze.

So what I'm basically saying is that, don't fret. Maybe a sudden change in your lifestyle is shifting your circadian rhythm, maybe this is just a phase and hopefully it'll revert back to the way it was later. But all the same, you can go and get yourself checked with a doctor, it never hurts.

You are not fully aware of it yet, but it is slowly deteriorating your immune system. Your system will eventually become so low, you will catch any flu type bug that comes along. Then, you will be down for several days with illness. You're sleep pattern if pitiful. You may need to see a medical doctor for a checkup, including blood work & urine tests to see if there's a chemical imbalance.Health Question & Answer

=/ yes it will unfortunately..

I do the same thing.. like im up for 23 hrs.. then i try to stay awake for anthor day so i can sleep at a proper time. It just doesnt work for me.. so here i am staying up most of the day then when i actually get to sleep i sleep fro 16-18 hrs.

Anyways, it will damage your immune system, so you'll be getting sick more often. In the short run, you'll be irritable and dizzy. On the long run, like i said, damge of the immune system and lack of sleep can also lead to color blindness and fainting, and er.. it can also lead to constipation, or so ive heard.

Oh and, oversleeping like, for over 12hrs will make you want to sleep more and more and you'll be feeling tired throughout the day [this happens t me]. Are you sure you dont have insomia or anything.? You should go checkup with the doctor =) thats what i did, eh most of the c&a regs know i dont sleep XP
