I sympathize with you man, and good for you for wanting to loose the weight.. To loose the "manboobs" you've got to loose the weight everywhere.. A healthy weight for someone your height would be roughly 160 lbs**..

I realize that would mean that you would have to loose almost half of your body weight.. The thing is, at your age, you can totally archive this if you work at it..

There's a lot of diets out there and they're all crap.. When you boil the basics of our dietary needs down, it all comes out to a basic input output system.. The number of calories you take in minus the amount that you use equals your net gain or loss..

I'm not proposing that you count calories, but it is a good way to judge the foods you eat and make healthy and responsible choices.. If you look at the back of any food box, you'll know that 2,000 Cal is the daily recommended calorie intake.. If you're a less active person, you'd need even less..

It takes 3,500 calories burnt to loose one pound of fat.. I'm over simplifying here, but basically, if you were active and only consumed 1000 calories a day, it would take 3..5 days to loose one pound of fat..

At this rate, you'd need a year and 4 months to loose 140 pounds.. Of course, you can speed this up drastically by exercising.. A really great workout, that can be fun if you enjoy this type of thing, would be hiking in the back country.. Strap 50 lbs of gear on your back and hit the trail..

Okay, anyway, limiting calorie intake is key.. And just as a reference, a McDonald's Big Mac (510), Medium Fries (380) and a Medium Coke (280) = 1,100 Calories.. That's half of a person's daily allowance in one meal! They add up quick!

Another important tip is portion control and timing.. There's been a lot of recent news pointing to something that should have been common sense.. Eating a bigger breakfast is a good way to limit your energy consumption during the rest of the day, and here's why:

A big breakfast jump starts the metabolism and helps restore your sugar reserves from the night before.. It also keeps you from snacking throughout the day, and it also shifts the calories from the later meals to keep it from just being wasted and put into fat stores as you sleep.. There's no point in having a huge dinner when all you're going to do is go to sleep in a few hours..

Portion control is also important.. If you can begin cutting back on your calorie intake, you're going to notice an obvious decrease in your portion size.. This will be hard at first, and you'll feel hungry a lot, but resist the temptation.. If you can gradually work your way down to smaller meals, you will eventually begin shrinking your stomach.. Before long, you won't feel hungry anymore and you'll be able to really start shedding the pounds..

The key to all of this is laying out a plan, setting goals, keeping track of them, and holding yourself accountable..

You're too young to go your whole life overweight and upset about your body image.. Only you can change your life.. Losing the weight now will certainly put you in a much better position to avoid diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and all other diseases associated with obesity..

Best of luck!Health Question & Answer

What you are talking about is a thing called spot-reduction.. It is a myth that you can just burn off fat from specific sections.. The human body just doesn't work that way.. It eats away your fat stores in order to meet energy demands, assuming you don't over endulge on food.. Any regimen where you give yourself at least 20 minutes a session for at least 3 days a week where you work at a 50% intensity of your Max heart rate (220 - age) will start to pay dividends.. That could be just walking at a good pace or getting on a treadmill, elliptical.. I wish I could tell you it is easy, but anything worthwhile takes some work..Health Question & Answer
