Does prolonged exposure to the elevated temperatures of jacuzzis cause damage to the male reproductive system?!

Question: Does prolonged exposure to the elevated temperatures of jacuzzis cause damage to the male reproductive system.?
My friend said that being in jacuzzis for too long is bad for the male reproductive system (specifically the testicles).. Is this true.? If so, what is the maximum amount of time that a male could stay in a jacuzzi, and how frequently can he go into the jacuzzi (ie: three times a week, etc..).? Thanks!Health Question & Answer

I assume you mean a hot tub.. Jacuzzi is just one brand of hot tub and there are many others.. I do think that Jacuzzi is the best though since they are the ones who originally came up with the idea and made the first ones..
The hot water in a spa will decrease sperm production TEMPORARILY.. It has the same affect as wearing tight under ware.. If you keep the water in the hot tub at 100 degrees or less, the effects would be minimal, if any.. Most people like to run their hot tubs warmer than that so in that case you should just not stay in it as long, no more than about 30 or 40 minutes.. I usually stay in mine for about 2 hours at a time but I keep my water at about 99 degrees.. The frequency of use is probably not really a significant factor..Health Question & Answer

Primitive men, who were yet somewhat advanced enough to worry about childbirth rates, used to soak their testicles in very hot water to lower their sperm count.. They didn't know about the actual sperm count, of course, but over 100's or 1000's of years they figured it out by chance..

I've not heard of exposure to high temperatures damaging the testicles long term, but it will definitely affect your sperm count short term..

If you're not planning on starting a family right away, I shouldn't worry about it much..Health Question & Answer

The whole reason testicles hang outside of the body is because sperm production is reduced at higher temperatures.. Men evolved this way because those that had undescended testes were unable to reproduce as well.. Our body is 98..6 degrees, which is way cooler than your average hot tub.. As to how long would create damage...... I have no idea.. keeping your hot tub cold might not be a good idea for your appearance though...... so it's give and take ;-)Health Question & Answer

In order for the testes to produce viable sperm they must be about 3 deg lower than body temp.. That't why they are suspended in the scrotum away from the heat of the body.. Sitting in a hot tub will decrease the number of viable sperm produces.. Not effective for birth control however as only 1 of the little buggers is needed to make her pregnant.. As long as you don't boil the boys, when you stop using the hot tub things should return to normal..Health Question & Answer

Yea if that jacuzzi is hotter than 95 degrees, the ideal temperature of sperm production, then you could be doing damnage.. That why you nuts are outside of your body cause its to hot inside to produce sprem..Health Question & Answer

I've heard that hot water can slow sperm production, or even kill existing sperm, but I don't know if they affect the testicles themselves (i..e.. when you cool off, your testicles should start producing sperm normally again)..Health Question & Answer
