Look @ the rest of the world - briefs are the prominent piece of underwear worn by males.. Here in the US once a guy reaches High School he switches to boxers (if his parents haven't done this for him already).. Why.? Poor little coward is afraid to be teased by his peers for not conforming to the set standard by the Fashion Industry.. Why do the other guys tease, because they are insecure of their masculinity and the teasing makes them feel masculine.. The same goes for cut guys teasing uncut guys.. Then they blurt out excuses to feel they are in the right.. Briefs reduce sperm count - wrong as CNN says in "Boxers or briefs: Myths and facts about men's infertility" ( http://www..cnn..com/HEALTH/men/9906/14/me...... ).. Women prefer them.. Since most of the men in the world wear briefs and are having sex and making babies this statement is false.. It might be better to say " A minority of females prefer boxers".. Well, Doggies! I switched to boxers & soon learned I'd made a bad decision.. I delivered newspapers for many years to supplement my income.. Sitting in the car, twisting & turning over & over, your penis ends up on one side of the crotch & your testicles on the other side - like straddling the fence & ewwwwwwww - that aint comfortable at all..

To answer your question, yes, I think most American men are unsure of their masculinity..
I don't know if it has to do so much with underwear and fashion as with our distorted politically correct society..
As to underwear, I gave up wearing any at 8 years old.. I don't like my boys all squeezed into a tight little package.. I prefer the swinging in the wind feel.. (Actually, I wish I could wear a nice long skirt ......)Health Question & Answer

I'd say its less about masculinity and more about purely fitting in.. Some guys never switch so I'd say this is purely anecdotal, unless you have statistical evidence that ALL US men switch to boxers during high school.. It is the style these days and does allow for more personal expression if you will.. I really don't think it says anything either way..Health Question & Answer
I stoped wearing briefs when I was about 10 because I thought boxers were better, and I liked them..
I think that most countries deal with fashion pressure as well as peer pressure, so you can't be biased to one country..

I wouldn't go so far as to say most American men, but certainly a large percentage feel that their masculinity is threatened.. Just look at the answer you got from surfnyog..
They are terrified of gays and every thing revolves around that, from the put-downs, to the type of underwear they wear (briefs are for gays, etc, etc).. They are so insecure in their masculinity and part of that is our society.. Women expect men to act in a certain way so they share some of the blame for this insecurity..
