I'll take a shot at answering this one, and won't hate like some people..
Guys don't "like" to wear jewlery.. We like to look good.. If the man you are wanting to buy something for already wears jewlery, like ear rings, or a watch, then just stick to buying him something like that.. It will impress him more if it's his favorite brand, If you don't know what he likes, buy something that you think will look good on him.. Avoid brands that he has no clue about, unless he has no clue about "high end" stuff..
Remember, buy something that you think will look good on him, and stick to jewlery items that he already wears.. If he doesn't wear jewlery, you should not attempt to get him any.. And most importantly, what you buy him is going to speak VOLUMES about who you are, so add some funk (personality) to way you give him his gift.. That way if he doesn't like it, atleast he'll be impressed with the way you delivered it to him..
