Question: Have any man on here ever had a cystoscopy (camera in bladder)&was it painful.?
Answers:
I'd say uncomfortable but not painful.. The tube that goes up your urethra is extremely narrow - a miracle of modern technology - and well lubricated.. It's also coated with a local anaesthetic, which numbs the area quite effectively.. You may have the option of watching the images from the camera, which I found took my mind off things, and was interesting to see.. Just concentrate on the benefits of really knowing what's going on in there, so that you can be given appropriate treatment.. Good luck!Health Question & Answer

I had one last year to eliminate the bladder as the source of a problem I was having.. It is slightly uncomfortable, especially as the cystoscope is pulled out and for an hour or so afterwards, but not what can be called painful..

You will be given some antibiotic tablets to prevent any problems.. Your penis will be cleaned thoroughly (especially under the foreskin if you are uncircumcised) and then an anaesthetic gel will be squirted into the urethra (piss tube)..

The cystoscope will be inserted into the bladder, it will feel strange and you will notice a slight 'pulling' sensation as it goes down the urethra.. There may be a slight sharp sting as it initially pushes through the sphincter and into the bladder..

Once the doctor has examined the bladder the cystoscope will be gradually withdrawn - this is the point where you may feel it most.. Once it is out the tip of the penis will sting for a while.. You will be given plenty of water to drink and will need to pass urine before being discharged from the hospital.. This will almost certainly sting quite a bit the first few times you piss, but will settle down after a day at most..

You will NOT need a general anaesthetic unless other procedures are also being done, eg removal of something in the bladder, which themselves need a general.. The whole thing will take about half an hour (an hour at most)..Health Question & Answer
