The procedure requires mild anesthetic (pain medication) they don't put you asleep. It is not normally painful, per say. You will still produce semen when you ejaculate. Its just the semen will not contain any sperm cells. You can get a vasectomy that is not permanent. They use tiny clamps to pinch the sperm ducts of the vas deference, thereby preventing sperm from entering the vas and being ejaculated from the penis. You will also continue to actually produce sperm, its just it'll get absorbed by your body through your bladder. You will also continue to produce testosterone so its not like you're going to be turned into a girl or something.
It can be relatively expensive, compared to a five dollar box of condoms and a few more for a tube of spermicide. But it is full proof in 99.9% of cases. Cases where men still got women pregnant are where they did not wait until their body flushed the semen already in the vas deference. Sperm is just a small part of what you ejaculate, so you would still ejaculate something. You would be able have sex and/or masturbate regularly, without noticing any difference.

i had a vasectomy.
you will notice no difference at all, in any way...you just can't have kids.

A vasectomy, and it doesn't stop semen, only the sperm. So you'll still by firing the fluids out.
