My recovering alcohol uncle can't sleep?!

Question: My recovering alcohol uncle can't sleep.?
Hello,

I was wondering whether someone can give me *my family* any tips or recommendations on helping my recovering alcoholic uncle to sleep. It's been 5 days since my uncle came to our house to sober up. He's been eating, and drinking saline solution to hydrate and recover. But he hasn't been able to sleep in almost a week. he has also taken natural sleeping pills, but they don't seem to be working. Can anyone please tell me or recommend something for him in order to sleep. I know his system must be really whacked out, messed up for drinking 3 months straight (almost no food), but i want to see if there's anything i can do to help. Thanks in advance.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
there is a reason he can't sleep, and it is a necessary part of the withdrawal, his poor brain has been pickled for so long that now, now that its free of the alcohol fog, it's trying to catch up. I am not sure why he is trying to detox in your home, not a good idea really, but you might want to suggest he see a doctor. He can be given medications that will ease the transition for him from being a drunk to being sober again.Health Question & Answer

He needs to see a doctor. There are medicines to help an alcoholic detox and get some rest.In the meantime, try giving him Tylenol PM.Health Question & Answer
